Bridlington Town Mayor – Councillor Angela Walker
I am very privileged to have lived in Bridlington all my life and I proudly call it my home town. My husband, Graham and I are grateful to have raised our family here.
For 32 Years I worked as a nurse at our local hospital right up until retirement. Never having been a person to let the grass grow under my feet, upon retiring I decided I would like to help in my local community in a voluntary capacity. As a retired nurse I was asked if I would like to join The Friend’s of Bridlington Hospital as a fundraiser – of course I jumped at the chance! I enjoyed volunteering and seeing the positive impact on the people of our town so much so that I went on to volunteer for Age UK and I am now currently a volunteer and trustee of the New Pasture Lane Community Centre and a member of the Bridlington Health Forum.
My interest in local politics grew, and in 2022 I made the decision to stand in the local elections for Bridlington Town Council. I was absolutely thrilled to be elected for my next volunteer challenge as a Bridlington Town Councillor for the Old Town Ward where I live.
In my second year as a Councillor I was duly elected as Deputy Mayor for the civic year 2024 to 2025, with Graham by my side as my consort. In my role as Deputy Mayor I have been fortunate to attend both Civic and local events, with grateful thanks to outgoing Mayor Councillor Rick Arrand and his Mayoress Mrs Kim Arrand. Events have ranged from the beach volleyball championships, opening Party in the Park to attending the Lord Mayor of Hull and Admiral of the Humber’s History in Sliver event.
At the Bridlington Town Council’s Mayor Making meeting on the 21st of May 2026, I was voted in as Mayor of Bridlington by my peers. I am extremely proud to have bestowed upon me this great honour, and once again I feel very fortunate to accompanied on this exciting new chapter of life by my husband Graham as Mayor’s Consort. We are both looking forward to meeting many new people and attending many celebration, commemorations and the hugely varied events our town has to offer along with supporting the hard working local charities’ that work tirelessly to make our town a better place.
When I do have spare time I enjoy singing and performing with the Filey Show Group, socialising, walking, knitting and crafting. But of course most of all I love spending time with my family.
During my Mayoral year I will be raising funds for two Mayoral charities which are the Bread Shed at the New Pasture Lane Community Centre which helps residents who have been struggling with the cost of living crisis and the M.N.D Association Yorkshire Coast which is a community focused group that provides support and recourses for individuals affected by Motor Neuron Disease for which I will be organising several charity fund raisers including afternoon teas, bingo and race nights.
